Big Money

The 'Big Short' is an interesting production set in the US. It comes across as a possible political thriller on some level because it presents us with a number of characters who are conflicted about morality as well as about their relationships with one another, due to their love or lack of love of money and gain.

It thus lays out a set of dynamics between numerous characters around a possible political plot.

At first glance, this is one layer of the film, but the movie is of course one which deals with the intrigue around investment risks and the economic market at a certain time period in the US.

It highlights the issues which stem from an artificial economic environment of bonds and investments, i.e: it deals with the absurd notion of trusting an abstract and overly constructed complex monetary system,
To show us the latter, it also exposes some of the dynamics of the market and of the big money making institutions in the US.

Other than the morality instinct versus the money making impulse, which comes across as the main dichotomy in the movie, there is an obvious plot line which follows the unfolding of the characters' personalities.

The characters are very well 'written' and so is the dialogue which is fast and humorous as well as edgy.

All in all, an entertaining film with a few great moments because of the interaction of some very unusual characters, especially because it paints them in a very realistic way and presents all of their many facets.
It basically shows the many faces of human nature, which are often to be found in one individual.

A slightly long film, but because of its expositional quality and editing style, it comes across as a reportage or a series of news feeds within a story and this makes it seem less prolonged.
